Recreation Program Assistants

Registration Process

1. Volunteer Program Assistants are open to high school or college students and are eligible for Bright Future service hours, or any other volunteer requirements for students.

2. Positions are registered anytime throughout the school year, but in order to register for a specific program you may be interested in you must be cleared by the end of the registration deadline.

3. To register as a program volunteer, fill out the volunteer packet on this page during the registration period and send it to Recreation Manager Delaney Lehman at dlehman@debary.org.

4. Once your packet is received, you will receive a link to complete your background screen form online.

5. When the background clears you will receive notification that you are set up as a volunteer. From there, the Program Supervisor will be in touch with more information on starting the upcoming program.

Background Screens

All volunteers must be screened once annually in order to be an active volunteer in any of our programs. All volunteers are cleared through the National Center for Safety Initiatives at no expense to the volunteer. After registering to volunteer, the participant will receive a background screen link via email and must complete the screen at least two weeks prior to the program start date in order to be cleared on time. Volunteer background screening is governed by Florida state statute. Any offenses listed in the state statute will automatically disqualify a participant from volunteering. Any offenses not listed in the state statute are to the discretion of the City if they are to allow the participant to volunteer or not.

Program Volunteer Code of Conduct

Volunteers, alongside City staff, are the face of the program to the participants. Due to this, our volunteers are held to the same standards, policies, and code of conduct as staff members. This includes, but not limited to, the volunteers actions within and outside the recreation program, commitment to the program, availability to attend all required dates, timeliness, and professionalism while participating. All volunteers are provided limited training alongside staff members and other resources to get started in the program. From there, it is the volunteers responsibility to ensure the high standards are being met and they put in the required work to successfully complete the program.
