Road Closures & Detours

Ft. Florida Road - CLOSED between Barwick & Hwy 17/92

Starting June 5th and lasting through November, Ft. Florida Road between Hwy 17/92 and Barwick will be closed for safety improvements, including stormwater mitigation and the addition of a bike trail. The project is anticipated to take 6 months to complete. 

During this time, adjustments generating gaps in traffic will be made to the Ft. Florida Road Traffic Signal to help facilitate the side street movements from Barwick Road. Alternatively, cars may take Ft. Florida to Highbanks and utilize the signal at that light.

This road work is necessary to install stormwater infrastructure to prevent road flooding, repair road shoulders, and extend the bike trail from Rivington to the 17-92. Traffic engineers and traffic safety experts have advised that both lanes must be closed for the safety of the workers and motorists.

Volusia County Schools, first responders, and waste management are aware of the upcoming detour. Please be sure to drive with caution while workers are present and do not move barriers!
