Communication Specialist

The Communications Specialist is the City of DeBary’s first-point-of-contact.  Combining a blend of social media outreach, brand development, consistent messaging and direct resident contact, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for partnering with the Communications & Government Affairs Director in forming bonds with community partners that ensures transparency, engenders trust, raises awareness and empowers citizens to be knowledgeable participants in City government.

The City of DeBary is citizen-focused.  In order to serve our community, we are seeking an individual that can serve as City ambassador – greet our residents, respond to inquiries, and provide information and direction.  Our message goes beyond the spoken word, and the ideal candidate would have experience with, or be willing to learn, a variety of social media platforms and the software programs required to produce and deliver our messages accurately, factually, and transparently.

Will this person have the opportunity to have an impact on the service that we provide to our community?  Yes.  Will this person serve as an ambassador, strategically placed in our lobby to greet individuals and ascertain their needs?  Yes.  Is there the possibility to grow the position and increase the value to the organization and community? Yes.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, communications, hospitality or related field, three (3) years’ experience in a customer-focused environment and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
