Staff is requesting City Council direction on the decision to provide or not provide a car cruise/show for the City of DeBary.

There has been preliminary discussion from City Council regarding providing this event to the residents of DeBary.

Staff investigation has found the following car cruises in the immediate area; DeBary - Run by Barry Wilson on the first Saturday of every month except for September at the Winn Dixie parking lot, free to the public and no cost to the city. The summer month hours are 5-8 pm and winter month hours are 3-6 pm. They have several business sponsors including AutoZone, Subway, and Chic-fil-A. Summer months average 30 cars and winter months 80 cars. This organization is associated with the Coachman clubs who also have chapters in Jacksonville and Daytona Beach. It is important to note that most of these events are termed cruise-ins so special event insurance is not required. Deland - Run by Jerry Morin every Friday 5-9 pm, there is no specific club affiliation as it is a cruise-in as well and is free to the public and no cost to the city. Jerry Morin charges $365 to handle marketing/promotions and DJ'ing special events, Outside of Special Event Fridays he promotes these events for donations only. Sanford - Run by Jerry Morin the last Saturday of every month. This event is affiliated with Celery Cruisers and is free to the public and no cost to he city. Everything mentioned for Deland is consistent with Sanford. Longwood - Run by Don Musica and Tara Bush affiliated with the Cruisen' Orlando Club and held the second Saturday of every month. Musica/Bush charge $400 per event to handle marketing/promotions and DJ'ing the event. The City of Longwood acquires vendors for $35 ea., handles traffic safety, pays the $400 per event and provides marketing assistance to the club.

One question to be considered is if we already have a successful car cruise event, that doesn't cost the city money, do we need to do anything else?

Provide direction and course of action for this particular event. If the desire of the council is to move forward with providing this event, a funding amount and source needs to be determined.
