Interim City Manager requesting the City Council to confirm its desire to delay the selection process for a new City Manager until the completion of the special election for the Mayor scheduled for January 17, 2016 and/or March 14, 2016 whichever applies.
This request is needed at this time to formalize the Council's desire to allow the new Council Members elected in the general election on November 8th and Mayor on January 17, 2017 or March 14, 2017 to select the new City Manager.
At the September 12th, 2016 Council Workshop, the Interim Mayor and City Council expressed their desire to delay the selection of the new City Manager until such time that the new Council members and Mayor take office for the following reasons:
1. It would not be fair to either the newly elected officials or the new City Manager for the
decision to be made before the newly elected officials take office, and have an
opportunity to formally participate in the selection.
2. The pool of candidates received to date was disappointing.
3. There is a good likelihood that the new advertising after the first of the year will result
in a more expansive pool of candidates.
The cost of delaying the process and re-advertising for the position would be minimal.
It is recommended that the Council formalize its desire to delay the City Manager selection process as provided herein.
