Summary/Highlights
The Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative, known as Amendment #1, was on the November 2014 ballot as a constitutional amendment.  As written on the ballot, the purpose was to acquire, restore, improve, and manage conservation lands including wetlands and forests; fish and wildlife habitat; lands protecting water resources and drinking water sources, including the Everglades, and the water quality of rivers, lakes, and streams; beaches and shores; outdoor recreational lands; working farms and ranches; and historic or geologic sites, by dedicating 33 percent of net revenues from the existing excise tax on documents for 20 years.  It passed by approximately 75% of the vote.
Background Discussion
At the Mayor's Roundtable, the Mayors and County of Volusia collectively supported the proposed resolution that would advocate that the legislature allocate these funds to provide infrastructure necessary to support water quality projects in Volusia County.  This was discussed in conjunction with the elimination of septic systems in an effort to restore, protect and maintain the quality of the water bodies in Volusia County.

Recommended Motion
That Resolution #15-03 be adopted as presented.
